Olympic Dam BARS Project
Overview
KAEFER was engaged by BHP to provide installation services and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) for the Bismuth & Antimony Removal Systems (BARS) Project at the Olympic Dam Mine in South Australia.
Scope of Work
- ECI – providing value through constructability and design reviews
- Detailed earthworks
- Concrete works including foundations, tank plinths, structural footings and ramp installation
- Supply of FRP and stainless tanks, structural steel, FRP cPVC and stainless & carbon steel piping works, supply of pipe cladding
- Installation of main piperack support structure, tanks and tank platforms including stairs, handrails and FRP grating
- Installation of pipe & cable tray supporting structures and junction box
- Installation of all steel, FRP and cPVC piping works, spanning instrument air, hydrochloric acid, portable water and steam lines (including tie-ins)
- Installation of cooling towers for water and safety shower systems
- Installation of the Beta package system, which separates acid from water to reduce acid consumption
- Installation of LV switch room and all associated E&I works
- Hydrotesting of all pipe and tank installations for plant commissioning
- Assist in full plant commissioning for handover to production
