KAEFER (formerly G&S Engineering Services) carried out the Structural and Mechanical installation of two Sandvik designed Stacker Reclaimers and one Sandvik Shiploader.

Our Scope

Located at the Port of Newcastle the Newcastle Coal export terminal is one of Australia’s major coal export facilities servicing the mines located in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Gunnedah, Gloucester and Western coalfields of New South Wales.

KAEFER carried out the Structural and Mechanical installation of two Sandvik designed Stacker Reclaimers and one Sandvik Shiploader. The scope included the assembly and installation of:

  • Bogies;
  • Substructures;
  • Slew bearing and machining of paths;
  • Superstructure;
  • Boom and mast structures;
  • Counterweight boom and counterweight;
  • Bucket wheel and drive systems;
  • On-board conveyors; and
  • Piping and hydraulics.

KAEFER supplied all construction equipment, cranage, supervision and labour for the project including commissioning support. KAEFER also provided labour and equipment support for the off-loading of major components from heavy lift ships and barges including assistance during heavy transport from berthing facilities to construction sites.

KAEFER implemented an innovative build process driving greater pre-assembly on the ground than Sandvik anticipated, resulting in reduced overall costs and working at heights risk. KAEFER was offered the maintenance contract following this project.
