Dampier High Hang-up Overhead Protection
KAEFER was engaged by Rio Tinto to undertake the High Hang-up Overhead Protection project at its East Intercourse Island and Parker Point sites.
Our Scope
The project comprised the design, supply and installation of overhead protection from falling high hang up product at the Dampier Port Sites.
- Scaffolding access and encapsulation
- Abrasive blasting, surface preparation and application of protective coatings and subsequent inspection and testing
- Design & installation of overhead protection from falling product including shedder plates, defector plates and shelters
- Labour & equipment to carry out installation of all overhead protection items
KAEFER offered an alternative safety mesh design as part of our initial tender submission, which was accepted by the Client as a value-adding initiative. The alternative design resulted in cost savings of 50% for installation and 25% savings in ongoing maintenance costs. The sites were required to remain operational during works. KAEFER implemented strict interface management to ensure the installation of the overhead protection had minimal impact to the Client’s operations.
